The Beaufort Wooden Boat Show will be held Saturday, May 3rd from 10AM-4PM. This family-friendly event is designed to teach kids the historical nautical and maritime traditions of the region.
Hosted by the North Carolina Maritime Museum, this event offers activities fun for the whole family! There will be a wooden boat show set up along Front Street and the waterfront of downtown Beaufort, and while free traditional sailboat rides will be offered at the Harvey W. Smith Waterfront Center, most of the children's events will be held on-site at the museum, so be sure to stop by and check those out!
Attendees will receive a wooden blow boat kit so they can sand, decorate, paint and test the sea-worthiness of their vessels. There will also be a kiddie pool set up with plastic boats for smaller children to enjoy. Demonstrations from the Beaufort Pirate Invasion will take place on the back porch of the museum, complete with a plastic cannon kids can shoot while they learn about Blackbeard and the history of life on the sea.
After the kids have tested their skills in the wooden boat race, visitors are invited to try their hand at sailing via the Boating Skills Virtual Trainer. With so many fun activities to keep the family engaged all day long, this event may be the thing that keeps you and your family coming back to the Outer Banks year after year.
